NOTE: This webinar was previously presented through our sister site, Scent Work University.
This webinar is for anyone with a dog who struggles being crated or contained in a car, or anyone with a new dog or puppy wanting to make sure their dog’s car crate is a happy place that they can rest.
For dog sport enthusiasts in particular, having our dog able to load into, travel and settle in is of paramount importance! Firstly, most dog sports necessitate that our dogs be crated when not performing. A dog who is happy and relaxed in their car crate is able to fully relax between searches in Scent Work, runs in agility, outings in competition obedience, classes in conformation and so on. Being able to settle minimizing stress and maximizing our dog's performance. However, cars and being crated in the car may be something new for many teams new to the sport dog community.
In this webinar we will:
- Discuss why car crating is commonly utilized in Nose Work and the benefits of car crating as a skill
- Discuss how to help make sure your car crate is comfortable for your dog, including keeping it climate controlled in the heat or cold
- Discussing fear of the car, reasons this can occur, a basic overview of interventions for fear/anxiety related to the car and additional resources for dogs struggling with “car feelings”
- Provide a step by step training plan for helping your dog become comfortable with their car crate
